I have been in an undeniable flare for the past week. Today a couple of ulcers appeared in my mouth. The photos above are not of mine, but of someone else. I do have one on my tongue and it hurts like crazy. I have had one on my tongue so bad, it felt like it had a seed in it. It took forever to get rid of it! I have had the sores in my nostrils for a month or so now. And, I get them in my ears. Miserable!
Generally, when we get the ulcers we are going into a flare or are already in one. I have found some great mouth rinses for these ulcers, one by Colgate and the other by Orajel. I usually rinse my mouth 4 times a day. I hit it hard with the mouth rinse. Some of the ulcers are so big, so deep, and so bad it takes forever to be rid of them. And, as you know, we don't only get these sores just in our mouths, we can get them everywhere.
Our skin is the biggest organ we have, and Crohn's Disease attacks it with sores just as much as it attacks our mouths. So don't be embarrassed to ask your doctor about a place that just won't go away. Let your Dr biopsy it, you'll be surprised at what you may find out about it. Crohn's takes over our bodies, and there is nothing we can do about it, just try to treat the symptoms, and pray we may some day go into REMISSION.
The mouth rinses I have found at pharmacies and Kroger. I asked a pharmacist if there was any difference and he said not really any difference. Orajel has a lidacaine in it, so it is numbing. But, other than that, not really any other difference. You can ask your doctor to write an order for Mary's Magic Mouthwash, it is a compound, so be sure you know where your insurance covers a pharmacy to mix it. Most Walgreen's has 1 compound pharmacy in a city, just have to know where it is. Or, you can have the hospital pharmacy mix it for you.
